In one of my first posts I stated:
“It appears that success comes to the cities that have made a commitment to educating citizens about responsible dog ownership, enforcing the by-laws and implementing meaningful penalties.”
I listed:
- Increase the fine
- Install signs in the parks stating that there is a by-law and a fine
- Enforce the by-law – Enforcement is definitely a challenge, but other cities have done it
- Host a public awareness campaign or “Responsible Dog Ownership Day”
I thought I would revisit the idea of finding solutions. I would now add “establishing an off leash dog park in the city”.
Please feel free to suggest ideas to help solve this problem.
I agree with your concern. Too many dog owners are negligent letting their animals roam free without considering the consequences. I favour fenced in dog runs in locations not too close to where there are homes. I am also in favour of education and harsher penalties imposed on those who flout the law especially if anybody is harmed.
